I don't know if this is the right place for my question but I don't know where else to post this...
I've got a problem/question....twice within a short period (a week or so) I've got the message "Your account on SRK Forums has been locked because someone has tried to log into the account with the wrong password..." in my mailbox.
I've never had this before so I would like to know if this has something to do with the server not running smoothy lately or is there some other explanation...???
Anyone else who has got the same message...???
Ignore it. As you see your account isn't locked out.

I've gotten the same message too, about a week or so ago. Someone keeps trying to hack into our accounts, but can't get in because they can't figure out our passwords. The e-mail gives you the IP address this person used, but if you have no way to access this info, you can't do anything about it.
I figured it's an outside hacker trying to gather passwords, so they could attempt to gain access into other types of accounts we may have outside this website. I hate hackers!

Abaya, that was my thoughts too. But I refrain myself from asking this, cause I didn't want to bother you admins ... (silly me).
That's why I've currently two different login-passwords on frontpage and forum...
I really hope you catch them and ban them down to hell :ranting:
(I've no problem with tracking IP adresses - so please do)

I had it twice in the course of 3 weeks, everytime I get an IP address that doesn't mean anything to me. He's welcome to my password if he can get it; I don't use it for sensitive sites like bank account etc...

whoever has done this is despicable...and obviously jealous of this site. It's quite scary too...how much at risk are we?

The question is: What can be done, how can the forum and itīs members be protected? How does someone who wants to hack the forum know the memberīs names?
Everybody, who is logged in, shows up in the list at the bottom - even for not-logged in persons. Is there a possibility to make this list invisible for nonmembers? Is there an option of forum or website settings to make all threads and members lists invisible, to show only announcements of the webmasters, admins? Would that be a suggestion or is it too late already?
We can try and make the whole forum for members only.
I was reading the Madame Tussauds thread and clicked on the next page. Instead of getting the next page, I got this:
Gosha, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
Try again now Gosha. Try re logging in again.

I will go back to that thread and try again. Thank you. :)

Hi everybody,
I got the same mail yesterday and changed my pw for this forum.
Next time I'll ignore it, but it made me a bit afraid of what could
happen when this *censored* gets through with it....

I've had that message on several occasions since the Christmas holidays and I've also found myself disconnected quite a few times, especially when I was posting in a thread and couldn't submit the reply without relogging.
Could it be related in any way to our persistent Canadian prankster?
I got the same message twice in last week or so... I changed my pass too, made it a bit more difficult... The thing is I'm not used to my new pas yet and tend to try to log on with the old one for the first time... lol. Well, I hooe they don't manage to hack the passwords... I hope the admins have really difficult passwards...as if they manage to hack into their accounts... Don't even wanna think about it...

So far so good! The problem has been gone and I hope that it stays gone. :fingerscr

Not gone yet! :groan: Our lttle prankster got somebody yesterday...saw it in the IP address thread that Abaya had started. Whoever this is, they seriously need to get a life. The longer this goes on the more I'm inclined to believe someone is trying to get into our accounts to make malicious posts. The dummies!! :bonk: We'd know it was a hacker post in a heartbeat!
Sorry to hear that. I wonder if this could be reported to the Canadian equivalent of the Federal Trade Commission?
The Canadian IP is ours, the prankster is trying to get into the front page and as the front page and forum are interlinked, it appears that the forum IP is sending the email. The Webmaster has to go through tons of log files to determine the actual IP of the prankster.
Got another attack yesterday...
