can be prevented from using the How to's thread to peddle their useless sites? Yesterday, there was another one selling drugs and providing links to porn sites...:rocket:

I knwo it really is annoying, but how would it be possible to detect which new member would likely do this and not let them join in the first place..I guess all that can happen is banning them after the post something like this..

I have a forum of my own...and I'm the admin of the forum created for my high school class... Some time ago such users spammed the forum every day, but since it's only for my class, it asks for activation by admin before one can actually become a member... They usually fill in their profiles and add their homesites etc. Usually you can tell by that info that they are just spammers.

But I guess here are too many new member for admins to check them out first and if they don't fill their profiles the same way then you can't tell who's who anyway...

I don't, because then you need to know someone from here to be able to join.
When I joined here last summer I didn't know anyone from here, and I didn't know anyone at all who was interested in bollywood in general. With a referral system, I would never have been able to join.
And I happen to know that I am not the only one who joined this forum this way.
