'Farah shouldn't get personal'

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is upset with the Om Shanti Om director for making 'barbed comments'

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya is coming to a theatre near you on the same day as Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om, causing what many distributors see as a bottleneck at the box office.

When asked about the supposed competition, Sanjay says, "I'm here to make a film and believe filmmaking to be an art form. Cinema is not a battlefield. All of us work very hard on our films, and my film is as dear to me as other people's films are to them."

Repeat offenders

Pausing for breath, Sanjay says, "Let me say at the outset that we announced our decision to release Saawariya on November 9 a year ago, so we aren't intruding on anyone else's release date. I'm sure Om Shanti Om is a terrific film. In fact, Shah Rukh Khan is the biggest star in the country and we are very small compared to him. I wish his film all the best."

On another note, Sanjay is extremely upset over what he thinks are personal comments made by Farah Khan on chat shows and media interviews. In fact, he's of the opinion that 'acerbic' items like 'Lily, don't be silly' (in yesterday's HiTLIST) shouldn't be published.

He says, "I'm proud to have my mother's name (Leela) as part of mine. No civilised person would want his or her parent ridiculed. Even if 'reliable sources' decide to make fun of my mother to get mileage, they'll still have her blessings. My mom has shown immense love for Farah (Khan) and her family, although over the years they've repeatedly made barbed comments about her in public."

Getting personal

Referring to a particular episode of Koffee With Karan, Bhansali says, "Farah said that if I were to make Om Shanti Om, it would be called Ma Shanti Ma. Why bring my mother into this, especially since she has so much affection for Farah? No matter what the provocation, I'd never speak like this about anyone's parents. If Farah is feeling competitive towards my film, she should restrict her comments to my work and not get personal. We go back a long way, so we shouldn't allow one film to sour relations."

Clearly upset, Sanjay says that Shah Rukh and he have come to a moral decision to keep this dignified and not to speak about each other's film in print. "I intend to stick to that decision even if other people on his behalf are eagerly breaking that moral code. 'Sources' close to the film are making catty comments about me and even my mother to get attention," he says.

Taking a deep breath, he adds, "I'm not going to be provoked into talking about another person's film or its cast. My mother and I wish Shah Rukh and his film all the best from the bottom of our hearts."

Holy crap! :O What's happening!! :shocked: I didn't think the "Lily" thing was about his mother....I thought it was his nickname as mentioned in the article. I didn't even understand that "Ma Shanti Ma" thing was about his mother...:hmm: What's happening! I think somebody fed all this twisted info in SLB's head.
Yeah Farah talks a bit much...but I don't think it's out of any kind of malice or with bad intentions. The press people always blow things out of proportion and cause problems! :@

I heard Farah say Ma Shanti Ma and she had no business saying that. SLB may be a whatever you want to call him but he's right in this instance. No one should call him Lily. He's proud of keeping his mother's name and he has every right to.

Farah is very funny and witty but she goes too far sometimes. I'm sure she'd pounce on anyone who made fun of her mom. It's not funny.

I think farah talks a bit too much also, you can see that in the kwk episode with srk and deepika...in her rapid fire he sounded so full of herself and was like she owns the film industry and that her film is the best film made in history! even srk imitated her 'mere film hit hai!!'..lol..just hope its healthy competition between the two films and its really not worth losing a relationship because of a film!

this time IMO SLB is right. Farah should cut all this down... and let her work speak for her... as it is OSO promos are creating waves. Even I was laughing about that SLB's "no comments" answers about OSO promos and Deepika (it sounded like AB saying he didnt see KBC with SRK). But SLB says here that he had a mutual agreement with SRK to not talk about each other's film... so it makes sense for him to do so, even if he has seen OSO promos on SRK's laptop. Now, instead of SRK, if Farah keeps talking about SLB or his film... it might show SRK in bad light too.

Besides, I didn't realize that "Lilly" was a modified form of "Leela" earlier... I don't think anyone would see much fun in a joke mocking their mother's name.

But again... this is an article written by that :loser:... who I am sure is anti-Farah these days... remember? on KWK Farah was asked about "casting couch" and she said "Sonu Nigam has said it is there, and I believe him."

She might go too far, but what exactly was wrong with "Ma Shanti Ma"? I mean, what was wrong enough for SLB to be miffed about? Is it a take on how much he loves his mom, or how much he brings his mom into everything? Well, he should be happy about it then shouldn't he?

My last name is my family name and its a bit strange "Dubey" and among my friends they do make fun of it, and that doesnt really mean they are trying to insult my family .. its just pure fun .. unless i start being a spoiltsport and crying about how much it hurts me (it doesnt ofcourse, since its funny)

On almost every episode of KWK they use other people's names in the industry and make jokes about it, but this is the first time that I've heard anyone complaining about it.

I wouldn't like hearing fun being made of my name either, so I can understand him a little bit. But construing an insult of his mother because it's her name is a bit farfetched for me.
I have several issues with this article: First the author and his known (un-)reliability, then the mixing up of facts, and then the very unreasonable sounding accusation of SLB, made sounding unnecessarily melodramatic by introducing the astonishing fact that SLB breathes. (Hey, guys, we need an irony smiley!).
SLB should be mature enough to know these jokes are normal for KWK, and should just keep quiet, or talk to Farah Khan privately about it.
The press should be more sensible on what for nicknames they invent (and yes, I am aware that this is a worldwide phenomenon).
And journos should take their work seriously enough to invent crap, if they have to invent it, that sounds a bit more convincing.

This is really confusing. granted , Farah Khan can be pretty crude, but then considering the author of this article, I'm wondering whether even one single word of it is true. He's such an ace at doing cut-paste articles (and assuming readers are fools)

Not everyone is sensitive about their family names or names of their parents but some are and Farah should have been aware of that considering she knows him well as an industry member.

Also, SLB is always seen with his mom. Many people have commented on it and probably made fun of that fact which is unfortunate. He had a bad childhood with his dad and it was his mom who was his savior. So in this context I think Farah was being mean.

Farah shoots her mouth off too much and passes it off as 'witty'.
