King Khan is 'Maha Style Icon'

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan received the Maha Style Icon award at the star studded MTV Lycra Style Awards 2007 here Thursday night.

Shah Rukh, attired in black trousers, shirt and light brown coat, received the award at the Andheri Sports Complex.

'I am honoured to receive the award,' said Shah Rukh, waving to enthusiastic crowds.

The glittering evening hosted by MTV VJs Sagarika, Cyrus Broacha and Cyrus Sahukar saw the Most Stylish Film Award going to 'Dhoom 2'.

The same movie gave Aishwarya and Hrithik Roshan the Most Stylish Female and Male awards respectively. The pair also bagged the viewers' choice Most Stylish Couple (on-screen) award.

Hrithik also walked away with the Most Stylish Body and New Look awards.
Choreographed by Shiamak Davar, 'Crazy kiya re...' from 'Dhoom 2' was named Most Stylish Song of the year.

The return of actor turned parliamentarian, Govinda, to filmdom gave him the Most Stylish Comeback award.

While Atif Aslam got the Most Stylish Person in Music Award, Anita Adajania Shroff received the Most Stylish Bollywood Designer award.

The awardees were selected by a panel of judges that included Farah Khan, Neha Dhupia, Raghavendra Rathore, Ramona Narang, Sheetal Malhar, Rohit Bal, Prahlad Kakkar, Manoviraj Khosla, Ambika Pillai, Narendra Kumar Ahmed and Mickey Contractor.

The high- voltage event was marked by electric performances by Shreyas Talpade and Atif Aslam.

SRK, Hrithik pick up awards for style

The MTV Lycra Style Awards, true to its name, asserted style over substance on October 25 at Andheri Sports Complex in suburban Mumbai.

In an interesting fusion of all things stylish, the show featured live music, new collections from hot designers, stunning models and some of Bollywood's most famous faces.

Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan and Dhoom 2 were the event's big winners.

For the show's climax, the girls from Chak De! India came onstage to present the final award: MTV Maha Style Icon. In fitting fashion, their coach won in a landslide, giving SRK one more reason to call himself King.

After accepting the trophy, Shah Rukh joked about his own fashion sense.

"I just wear all black, so no one knows I'm wearing the same outfit again and again. Or blue jeans and a white shirt, you can always borrow them from a friend and you'll look okay."

All the while, female fans clamored from every direction, with shouts of "Show us your body!" and "Six pack!"

Deepika Padukone, who is working alongside SRK in Om Shanti Om modelled a stunning pink sari, drawing tremendous applause as she glided up and down the runway.

Hunky Hrithik brings home four awards
Hrithik's entrance nearly stopped the show, as audience members hooted, hollered and rushed to take photos.

The actor went on to win a handful of trophies, including Most Stylish Actor (Male), Most Stylish Body, and was voted by viewers as one part of the Most Stylish Couple (with Ash in Dhoom 2).

Wearing a formal white evening jacket with black trim atop blue jeans and white sneakers, the light-eyed heart-throb looked every bit the part.

When accepting the awards, he showed a good measure of humility, redirecting the praise towards Anahita (Shroff Adajania, the designer from Dhoom). "This one is for you, Anahita! Thanks again."

Hockey, in style!
The girls from Chak De made quite the splash at the event, all glammed up and looking gorgeous. They sizzled the red carpet before the show and presented the night's final trophy later in the evening.

As far as films, the show's big winner was Dhoom 2. Though bemoaned by critics, the mega-blockbuster romped through the Style Awards, picking up a handful of trophies: Most Stylish Film, Most Stylish Bollywood Designer (Anahita), Most Stylish Couple and more.

Director Sanjay Gadhvi was on-hand to accept the awards and to thank the entire cast and crew.

Just when everything seemed settled, halfway through the show, Shah Rukh Khan arrived to thunderous applause.

Necks craned to catch the superstar, who wore a partially unbuttoned black shirt and black trousers.

Famous and fashionable
Karan Johar -- the classy, sassy host of Koffee with Karan -- also took home an award: Most Stylish Person on television.

Govinda won the Most Stylish Comeback and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was selected as the Most Stylish Actor (Female). Neither star was in attendance.

Another highlight was the event's fashion component. Between award presentations, India's hottest designers, headed by Manish Malhotra, showcased their newest creations.

The designers drew from a wide range of styles: neo-gothic, sporty, chic and both Western and Indian formal wear.

One of India's hottest models and Bigg Boss runner-up, Carol Gracias looked dazzling in a variety of outfits. She headlined a troupe of models and celebrities walking the ramp, including MTV Veejays and Om Shanti Om stars Deepika Padukone and Arjun Rampal.

Atif Aslam rocks the night away
Joy Matthew was named the Most Stylish Female Model on the ramp while Ignatius Carmello, also well-known in the club scene as DJ Iggy, took home the Most Stylish Male Model award.

Audience members danced along in a mosh pit that lined the stage to live music played by Atif Aslam, Rouge, Hard Kaur and more.

Atif, in particular, enjoyed a big night; he won the Most Stylish person in music award early in the evening and followed it up with an energizing performance later on.

hmmm... well its hard to gauge it at the moment. I would say it is the standard big buzz for any SRK release. Everyone knows about it, have loved the music, are excited by the promos... many have also had negative things to say about SRK's DED look (which is quite natural... there will always be some unimpressed people)... the bottomline is everyone will watch the movie once for sure... and before Saawariya that is. So depending on how good the movie is, it should do well after a good opening. Many of my friends are totally smitten by Deepika and she will pull her own little crowd I guess... which is really amazing for a newcomer. I saw JWM today and they showed the promos of both OSO and Saawariya... there was the expected loud cheer when SRK appeared. But there seems to be some excitement for Saawariya too. My only worry is that Saawariya might get all the top single screens here... will have to wait for the theater listings to come up.

no big deal. it is just that SRK has won it at a young age compared to the other winners (Feroz Khan, Amitabh Bachhan, Rekha, and Rishi Kapoor). He is way ahead of his contemporaries. But he is still a leading man who sets style statements.. so he will keep competing with the Johns and the Hrithiks in the coming years. But i guess to win it he'll have to do stylish roles... which is not his only focus at the moment. Maybe Don 2 will present him very stylishly.

BTW just for an eg., AB has won Best Actor after having won lifetime achievement awards.
