View Full Version : No Negative Reviews!

Let's give this movie a chance guys. Let's not post any negative reviews at least for now, till everyone gets to see it. Everyone is so enthusiastic about the film, it would spoil their joy to hear crap from the media.

SRK especially has made such an effort to give us something new and fresh, he's worked really hard and is releasing this against all odds in the present atmosphere so let's give the movie a chance.

So please DO NOT post any negative reviews from the media or other sites. Thanx for your cooperation. :)

Meaning of negative: reviews which trash the film. I know that's a very subjective term but y'all know what members here would say is 'trashing' the film. :) Reviews which say SRK hasn't done a good job at all or the movie sucks, or comparing it unfavorably to any upcoming movie etc..

Please wait at least till Monday to post negative reviews.

Yeah I'd appreciate that. Good idea Uma. I'm already getting a bit nervous seeing the less than perfect ratings and I'm trying to stay away from reading any reviews. I'm sure it'll be great. I don't have reallly high expectations...I'm trying to be neutral about it. SRK himself seems so happy and so excited about it and I don't wanna be less excited by reading bad reviews by haters =P.

Dec-11-08, 12:41 PM
I am not sure I agree Uma. Some negative reviews might actually help me I think, in not getting too disappointed with the movie since my expectations at the moment are sky-high. I think a few negative reviews might put certain things in perspective and let me know what to expect of the movie. Also, some reviews might be overall negative, but there might be enough praise for SRK's performance even in these reviews and I really do not wanna miss out on reading these. :D Plus, I think the line diving negative and positive is quite blurry.

Doesn't this "strategy" give us an inaccurate and highly skewed atmosphere surrounding the film? I would like to know the truth, personally.

I actually think its a good thing if the negative reviews are delayed a bit. Atleast until a day passes by for the release. I know of a lot of sites and media outlets looking into this forum. They tend to pick up from the general vibe in the forum and then without reading between the lines, they say people are disappointed. Since they cite that fans are disappointed they end up certifying that others will be too.

Its a little dangerous how this thing can bring down the vibe surrounding a film but it happens and you won't believe how frequently. I know of people from IndianFm/bollywood hungama having seen a users comment in the user reviews and mulling taking that view in the review tomorrow for Taran. However, if a little birdie isn't lying, its going to be fairly positive run of reviews tomorrow. After 26/11 its become almost a media war on all things heroic to be highlighted. Fairly so I guess. Nothing Indian can be made to be seen as failing and SRK being the crown of India...........you do the math.

I personally am going to be watching the movie tomorrow morning and I expect to have a good time. I feel people should learn to manage their expectations. A movie is a movie................let the lights dim and let your senses be overwhelmed........ooh, sounds really........

well.......just go to the movies with an open mind and enjoy what you see......I am sure it'll be a good 3 hours of fun.......

God bless you all.

Guys I'm not talking of member reviews. If a member didn't like it he/she can say so. But members here are all SRK fans so they won't just arbitrarly say it's a crappy movie.

I'm talking of media reviews - which can judge harshly because they have an agenda and not because they are really critiqing the movie.

I'm also talking of sites like Mouthshut.com and other such sites whose members also trash SRK. These are the types of sites I'm talking about.

I'm with you on this 200% Uma! Like seriously whats with the pessimistic outlook? There isn't a single media review out yet and SRK's fans are already writing the film off and creating major negative buzz. Shahbaash! All the SRK haters and bashers must be rejoicing that we are doing their work :( We need to have patience, and Stay Positive! :)

Although i'm all for freedom of speech and mind i personally think us as SRK fans should be more responsible with what we say and how we say it. Cuz the fact is everything on here is monitored and watched closely by not just SRK loyalists but the rest of the world, including the media and other not so how do u say "favourable" people. So i know everyone has adrenaline rushing through our veins, but my personal suggestion/request is if you have anything even slightly unbecoming to say about the film, be it in the form of a user review just keep it in for now. Rab Ne as SRK's wish is should be bigger and do better than DDLJ so lets make it come true no matter what! :D

I am not sure I agree. All the sites saying such things also dismiss all of the glowing member reviews as fan based and written to boost the film. Those people will talk negatively no matter what.

I feel the same way about negative media reviews, not posting them will kind of give members a skewed version of what's happening in India. Just my opinion.

She sooo strange, I think she expects some breaktrough film from every SRK film..move to Hollywood for God sake. Anyone knows what she gave Chakde India?
Besides the movie has never been promoted like some exceptional movie, I noticed a lot of people expected some sort of philosophical /breaktrough film and of course they got disappointed.

There are quite a few negative reviews out there and I think it distorts the perception of how the movie is doing since none of them are allowed here.

In any case, most of them seem upbeat about SRK and his performance. It's Aditya Chopra that is getting the brickbats.

Although the review is negative on the film, I wanted to take out SRK's part. This seems to be close to what other negative reviews are saying too. Most of them liked SRK very much. It's Adi that is coming in for major flak.

On the plus side, you don't get bored in the film and you don't moan in grief, simply because the star in Khan does not let you. His mannerisms and body language keep you engaged. It apt to say that it is only him that pulls the film through the first half and a major part of the second half; before the actual drama takes over in the last few minutes.

While you hope to cry and smile with Khan's sadness and his happy moments, nothing of that sort ever happens. The lines and the scenes don't let him take you on the emotional adventure. However he works extremely well within the constraints of his character, his body language and delivery is outstanding. He literally carries the film on his shoulders.

That shouldn't be the case.

A review is an opinion and people are free to believe what they want. I think it's extremely silly to think that someone on this particular forum is going to be turned off and won't watch the movie after reading a particular review. This is a forum dedicated to Shahrukh Khan fans, this isn't a general forum.

I think all negative reviews should be posted, it's refreshing to see what everyone has to say.

It's just a review, who cares? Post both negative and positive reviews. I don't think it's going to make a difference nor is it going to be a deciding factor on whether someone watches the film or not.

By not posting negative reviews and only saying good and positive things about the film, it's like you're forcing the viewer to automatically assume it's a good movie. That can have a pretty bad affect too.

BTW, I have noticed a pattern in the criticism of these dimwit critics who don't know anything about anything that has to do with films i.e. they tend to be harsh with makers who multitask for films. Like Adi has done the story, screenplay, dialogues and direction.........I have always seen that the critics bash the hell out of makers who do that.........even when the film is good......they tend to fault script, story, screenplay, direction.........

Taran Adarsh is a complete joke as a trade analyst, and more so as a critic; his opinions, and predictions, hold no weight to those who have an IQ over 55. Having said that, it'd be nice to know of the negative reviews floating about. I had felt that this movie would be heavily dance-oriented, similar to Aaja Nachle and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom-- Ergo, it would lack character development and story. From the only negative review I've been able to read, such was the case. Do the other unfavorable reviews follow suit?

Athena

I agree as well. By blocking negative reviews, one is also conversely creating unnecessarily high expectations which can also backfire.

Absolutely.

Both negative and positive reviews should be posted.

If there are users who are "sensitive" to them, they should refrain from coming online altogether.

Most of us live in a democratic world, and to have normal rules of respect and tolerance, I understand. But to say that you can't post a review? Come on.

Most people are (or should be) strong enough minded to know whether or not they want to watch a film for themselves or for the darn reviewer.

Then there will be an influx of negative reviews. By then, the positive reviews will have been posted, and the negative reviews will be the sole survivors. IMO

If a review is just an unbiased opinion it is all right, but there are some critics and some sites that are dedicated for negative propaganda about what and everything SRK does, so it is obvious that it is easy for some sensitive people to get affected by it. Here in this forum, not every member who watched the movie are praising it to skyhighs and they are expressing their opinions about the movie constructively which in my opinion are constructive reviews unlike some other people who always bash SRK no matter what he does. I support admins in this decision.

If it shouldn't make a difference whether it is a negative review, why should it make a difference if we post only positive reviews? IMHO, it is not forcing the viewer to automatically assume it is a good movie.

Nowhere did I say that negative reviews are banned. I said no negative ones for a few days at least. When people are so enthusiastic here to watch the film after a whole year of waiting for SRK, a few days shouldn't make a difference should it? It by no means will stop members here from seeing the movie, nothing will, but its disheartening to read about it on the very first day.
If the criticism is made with good intent and objectively it's fine. But a lot of media and sites are anti-SRK and we certainly don't want to read their views for a few days at least. But that's just here. No one's stopping anyone from reading them elsewhere, you can go search out all the negative reviews you want. :)

So whether it's like a fizzy can of soda gone flat or a 'pathetic' decision, it's made, done with. :)

So please wait at least till Monday, after that you can go crazy and make up for lost time.

Anupama Chopra says a lot of things. But if you want in illustration of how Anupama's personal opinion effected her review of RNBDJ which should have been objective to start with, see the Picture This review and then her interview with SRK. She baits SRK with wanting him to say or agree with her that he should want to do different things as an actor with his roles. Even quoting Javier Bardem at one point......(while talking she always cites western examples to solidify her point or display unabashedly that she is an avid film fan).......but SRK says each of his roles have a little of his soul in them and carries on to say that he is probably a not good enough actor to detach those two.

It illustrates clearly that while SRK wants to do different things, he chooses not to be so different that no one cannot. Because lets be fair now, we see SRK movies because we want to connect to him. He is like a magnet of sorts. I do realize that while the "critics" think SRK doesn't realize these things, I know that he does. It takes an actor who knows his work well enough to have consistency in performance or variety, and that knowledge allows for an actor to either be consistent in performance, a signature touch to his work, if you wish to say so or present variety with every role. SRK chooses to be this now. May be later he will choose to be full of variety and intellectuality. He said in another interview few days ago that there is still time left for him to do "intellectual films" and that he is slow so he doesn't get it now!

SRK IS SRK. He won't admit to there being a bias at present against him in the media because thats what is selling......mostly by getting us to read **** because whether we care or not we do read up on SRK and thats huge base of readers.......One way or the other, even this won't last. When you are up there, the perception is there is only one way to go........down........for SRK, that inshallah will not be the case.......by the grace of god and all you guys out there reciprocating his positivity...........will feed each other and he will reach greater heights............mark my words........even though......even if you don't mark them, he still will make it bigger than he is now.......

I was quite shocked when i read this after coming back from Vienna, especially since I think the film is better than the (Indian) reviews. :)

I watched the film unspoiled and I'm glad I did. It might not be the greatest film ever made, but I thoroughly enjoyed it; to be honest, I simply love it! And most reviews by German fans that I've read were very positive, too. :)

Great reviews, thanks a lot for posting. Especially the Knörer one is very interesting (but sorry everyone, I can't translate it - there are a few expressions I don't understand at all).

We'll see in a week what the fans say. Often if critics trash a film so much, the audience loves it nonetheless.

Maybe all those negative reviewers should watch the movie again. They put too much expectation on Adi and Shah Rukh to come up with another DDLJ. They need to realize that DDLJ is not going to be repeated and it may never be.

Not that I care but how many negative reviews are out there?

Already suggested at least twice in this thread: Go to www.allbollywood.com to get a complete picture.
