at another forum that I used to go to, but now don't have time for, they had a THANK YOU link that members just clicked and their names appeared...saves wading thru dozens of posts all just saying "thanks." Good idea?

ofcourse, members who want to elaborate still can, but those just wishing to convey a hearty THANKS quickly, can just hit the link. :thankyou:

Yeh, I've seen that before, and like that idea.

I liked to be thanked properly. :)

I've seen that too and yea it's not a bad idea. But it's so impersonal. Now if it's a site you just cruise and don't post often it's ok. But I think when you get to know people in a forum it's better to say a few words appreciating them for what they do. Just my 2 cents. :)

But most posts are just a simple 'thank you'. Those who want to express more can still do it, but this way, even lurkers can express gratitude.

that's what I mean...it can be either way, and who knows, you might get MORE thanks that way!

Hello Admin - I wanted to really "Thank" all of you from bottom of my heart for such a wonderful 2008...We had ups/downs (but ups always surpasses) and our SRK always rise above all...and you guys had accounts for everything...This has become truly my home away from home and i will always cherish those special bonding with each of you through this wonderful forum who is tied by our beloved SRK...

Also, i just loved the new updated front page...Happy 2009 everyone and look forward for great 2009 with all of you and wish our SRK the BEST - we got our first gift with GG awards and there is plenty to look forward...

Thank you again,
Dina

So finally, I guess this very good idea of a 'thank you' button was abandoned? how sad- because most threads are 90% made up of ONLY "thank you's " especially the pic threads. Hope the admins reconsider and implement this good idea atleast now. Better late than never.

yes, I often want to say thanks quickly, but don't as there are so many posts just saying thanks which doesn't really add anything to the thread.

I like the idea too cause if its just an article and i really don't have anything I want to say about what the article is about then i can just click the thank you botton:)

If you can press a button, you can write 'thanks'. Not really that different.

I go to sites where I use the button too. But those are sites where I contribute nothing and don't know anyone.

Personally, I like when people here say thanks Uma or thanks palacerani. That may sound like I have a huge ego but it's not. I put it so much work and try to do it as fast as I can, not because I have to but because I want to get the material to you so you can enjoy it ASAP. That's because I care about you and this site. It's not an impersonal job.

Pressing a button to say thanks requires no effort and no thought to the person receiving the thanks. It's impersonal.

Like I said above, If you can press a button, you can add a thanks Uma or thanks Mary or Reema etc. If that takes too much of your time, I dunno what to say. :)

point taken Uma (and thanks!)

but it's not the time taken, it's just that whole thread gets taken up with just thanks... doesn't add anything to the thread.

awww Uma, you made me change my mind:D

I really do appreciate what you, Reema, Ujj, Pawan, Mary and everyone do here on this forum and when I say thank you i really do mean it:)

Exactly my point - it just clutters up the thread....

I donīt have any problem reading a thread which is full of thank youīs. It just shows how much we all care and how much we all appreciate the work which is done for us to enjoy things of SRK - videos, translations (thanks UMA!), various pictures, articles, ...........and so on and on......
I would like to keep it that way - I will keep up this habit to say THANK YOU. I donīt want to push a cold button instead of posting a warm and heartfelt thanks - it doesnīt matter if a thanks-button is available or not.

I do agree that pushing a button is very impersonal. This is such a nice place, such a nice forum where people are nice to eachother and very polite in posting and writing. We DO care here and saying thanks doesnīt hurt and it doesnīt really take too much time. We have time to log in and read - so there should always be some seconds left to say thanks. And to me it doesnīt matter if a thread is filled with thanks posts - but people who do all the work for us really DO deserve a little personal thank you - itīs not too much for them to do all the extra work - so it shouldnīt be too much for us to thank them. :)

it wasn't intended to REPLACE people who want to write a full message, just make it quicker for us to go thru posts that merely say *thanks* and nothing else...

I have to admit I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it feels good to be thanked for our efforts. On the other hand, it does get kind of repetitive to see nothing but thanks in a thread. What I would like to see is more discussion about the content of the pictures, videos, etc. (along with a brief thanks would be OK. :D ) There are lots of times I post a video and there is no feedback at all about what folks saw in the videos, good or bad... LOL! Lots of thanks, but no real feedback.

a lot of time you post a video and people say thanks right away without looking at the video yet:)

I do that a lot.:blushing:

I still think it's a good idea, like I thought when this thread was started, and you would actually end up getting more thanks and appreciation than you would now. Lurkers would feel much more comfortable clicking a simple button to show their thanks than to type out a post, and the regular posters will still comment in the thread with their thank-yous. This way, everyone who appreciates the post gets to express it.

Yeah, I agree Reema. Those that feel comfortable clicking a Thank You button can do that, if anybody doesn't like that method, they can still post their thanks.

And as for thanking before you've seen it... Sorry, but I just don't see the point of that. Wait until after you've seen it! You don't get any rewards for being first to say thanks! LOL! It would mean more to me if I knew you had seen it, and actually had something good or bad to say about it.

I say Thanks before I've seen it because I appreciate that you have posted...(not to be first to say thanks!) and by the time I get to watch it, I might not be able to find the thread again

anyway, isn't it all academic as we don't have a Thanks button?

maryah
Nov-21-09, 12:33 AM
^ No, it isn't all academic because I'm also asking people to say a little more than just thanks... and they have to have seen the video to comment on it intelligently. :D

I think if there's a thanx button then even regular members wouldn't bother to do more than press the button. Some may but the rest might find it more convenient and speedy. I think it defeats the purpose.

I think if there's a thanx button then even regular members wouldn't bother to do more than press the button. For most of the regulars that won't happen I think, since they are regulars because they feel the need to express their opinion. :D  :) Maybe it could really help to integrate at least some of the lurkers? I'm quite undecided.

But what's for sure is that I'll never shut up (be afraid :P ;), whether I press a button or not. :haha:

intelligently? :hmm: that's asking a lot... from me, anyway! :whistling: intelligence goes out the window when an SRK video is involved :escape:

by the way - have you noticed... there are a lot more *thank you* messages being posted since I started this thread! ;)

If i may to interfere here... :blushing:

I know i'm one of the less-poster here. but that's because i always get the feeling that i am too late in discussions. When i read a thread, or download a new video than i like to read or watch it a couple of times (and sometimes a couple more times :P), think about it and then give my "intellectual" comment. But when i am ready to do so, the discussion seems to be over, and i only have to say what other people already have said.
So i most of the time end up saying nothing, or thanking immediatley right at the beginning, just for giving the credit to the admins and mods.

So, for me as one of the "lurkers" (by the way what exactly is that?) - i would think its nice to have a button, to thank very quickly! But i also understand that the personal thankyou is a little bit nicer - so i would not at all mind to keep on saying it using the quick-reply-button!

@ Mariam... exactly! sometimes it's difficult to find an old thread, even with the Search feature.

and a lurker is someone who visits the forum but doesn't post...

and hey! there's nothing to stop members from doing both... quick button response in the start, then detailed response after.

Sorry for reopening the discussion again in this thread, But I wish all the administers will consider the idea again. Besides all the comments that I agree with of others who want the "thank you" or "like" button, sometimes you get to like and want to replay to so many posts in one thread but you feel it will look odd and messy in away. And I like to thank any individual who wrote such an interesting comment or post such great video or picture. It will also increase the quality of the posts and the replies and they will become more encouraged to post even more. And to the ones who don't want to comment as such will have another choice to show their appreciation to other members posts.

Just saying.:)

thanks Neeran... and another point, it will give a total count of thank you's which is handy for stats. and maybe stop people going off topic (a bit!)

and while I'm here, may I heartily thank everyone who posts here, for links to vids, articles, pix - whatever and also for translations & subs - God bless all!
