Thanks Alexxia for mentioning this film. It's pleasant to find one more person who loves it too. I think it was underestimated although some scenes and songs are briliant.

you are most welcome . I often have the urge to watch his old movies. And Chaahat is definately always first choice. And then there is the second half of Deewana - but this is the Chaahat thread - sorry.

some of the older movies were fantastic, but ofcourse now the whole style of acting has changed, and movies are very different from back then. SRK was so raw & intense & earnest... now he's very smooth & accomplished.

I also love sweet naive Roop. Did he have a few really really bad days, or what? But I always turn it off after the song that follows the marriage... not because I have a particular problem with fake violence, but just because I lose interest then. Once you know how it ends, enough said...

Oh, and also... I hope I never hear Naseeruddin Shah lecturing about the evils of overacting! If he does, he can certainly point to his performance in Chaahat as among the most evil!

I don't mind 'overacting' if it's convincingly well done, and suits the role and the style of the film. But Naseer was just awful in this one. It isn't just the difference between styles back then, or now... it's just how well it's done. I've seen Naseer in others from that era where he was just fine. He was just totally unconvincing in this one. Strangely, the scenes with his 'sister' were among the worst.

All of the above 'in my opinion' of course.

I used to do exactly the same thing after watching the movie for the first time. But this time I watched the whole thing and despite the fact that I love the movie I have still difficulties with the violence and Reshma ...
